Mabel Mattos Elementary School Opens in Milpitas
JL Modular is proud to announce the opening of the Mabel Mattos Elementary School in Milpitas. The new 2-story modular classroom buildings will serve 250 students in the Milpitas Unified School District. Named for Mabel Mattos, a lifelong Milpitas resident who was the town’s first historian, the school will be expanded as District enrollment increases, and is expected to serve a maximum of 800 students.
The new school is being built as a center for “22nd century learning” with classrooms referred to as learning communities. The focus will be on ensuring that every student engages in state-of-the-art learning that includes:
- • Personalized learning
- • Community connections and project based learning
- • Collaboration and critical thinking
- • Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM)
The two-story steel frame buildings connected by a metal staircase were designed by IBI Group and Aedis Architects.
The first phase features:
- • A two-story modular classroom building with eight classrooms
- • An adjacent two-story administration building
- • All underground utilities for future phases
