Obsidian Middle School Gymnasium

The Konocti Unified School District partnered with our team to significantly expand the recreational and educational infrastructure at Obsidian Middle School through the construction of a new 6,785-square-foot gymnasium. Designed as a high-performance athletic hub, the facility features a full-sized basketball court engineered to support both competitive play and physical education curricula. The interior is optimized for versatility, incorporating five rows of retractable bleachers that allow the space to transition seamlessly between high-capacity spectator events and open-floor instructional activities. To ensure a professional environment for staff and students alike, the layout includes dedicated locker rooms, private coaches’ offices, and modern restroom facilities.

Architecturally, the building prioritizes both functionality and efficiency. The integration of strategically placed skylights floods the court with natural light, reducing reliance on artificial lighting during daytime hours and enhancing the overall aesthetic of the space. To maximize the footprint’s utility, the gymnasium is equipped with professional-grade retractable basketball equipment, allowing for rapid reconfiguration of the area. This project represents a commitment to delivering durable, state-of-the-art athletic facilities that foster student engagement and support the long-term growth of the district’s extracurricular programs.
