Multipurpose and Specialty Buildings

Construction of a 16,242 square foot school including a multi-purpose building and nine classrooms.

The new child development center consists of a new 6,650 gsf educational facility with a 3,500 square foot play yard that will serve approximately 40 children ages 3 to 36 months in four program rooms. The building is to be a one-story pre-fabricated modular structure built on a concrete slab. The prefabrication process will accommodate a compressed construction schedule. The project site, including the adjacent parking lot, will be re-contoured to facilitate construction, accessibility and emergency egress. At the University's request, the project is targeted for a LEED Silver certification.

With their current campus being a maze of ancient portable structures, the East Side Union High School District needed a permanent solution for their Adult Education campus. The solution was a combination of single and two-story modular buildings to be built around a central courtyard.

JLM took on the design-build project utilizing their traditional steel moment frame design for the single story buildings, and a prefabricated structural steel and metal wall framed design for the two story buildings. The new buildings provided 20 new classrooms, a full administrative office building, a student lounge building, a book room, and two computer labs.

UC Berkeley selected JL Construction as design-build contractor for the renovation of Blue Oak Ranch Reserve, a scientific research site on Mt. Hamilton in Santa Clara County.

JLC, with its architect partners, transformed the simple research site with a vintage barn and temporary living trailers into a state-of-the-art facility capable of accommodating 50 people with two faculty residences, four cabins and eight seasonal cabins. The utility infrastructure consists of a massive off-the-grid solar array, battery backup power, generators, solar hot water heaters, septic system, water storage and fire sprinkler pumps. The barn was renovated with a research lab, accessible bathrooms and showers, large commercial kitchen and presentation space.

Due to the remote site, all of the buildings were constructed in JL Modular’s manufacturing facility and placed on-site.

Construction of three new classroom buildings totaling 3,840 square feet. Includes two standard middle school classrooms and a music classroom including a large band room, instrument storage and sound attenuated band practice room. Project includes LED lighting throughout and high efficiency HVAC systems.

Based on the Roseland Modular Library project, Persinger Architects returned to JL Modular to construct two new buildings in Point Arena. The structures utilized the same design as Roseland, with a large monitor roof and windows for natural light, and were used as a library and a cafeteria.
The cafeteria building featured a small warming kitchen, serving line and buffet, and custom concrete stained floors throughout the cafeteria seating area. The library featured custom cabinetry, shelving, reception desk and book drop, as well as two large seating areas for group reading.

The College of Marin Child Study Center is a 6,300 square foot design build building housing the facilities of the Early Childhood Education department of the college. The building has admin offices, child interaction and observation rooms, and classrooms. JLC built the facility to LEED Silver standards. Some of the sustainable features include a quiet and efficient Mitsubishi heating and cooling system, efficient direct-indirect lighting, natural daylighting with large windows and skylights, and water-efficient plumbing fixtures. JLC teamed with JL Modular on the project to provide a large outdoor deck, landscaping, and play structures.

JL Modular, Inc. built and installed six restroom buildings at various sites for the San Mateo Union High School District.
